My Career Change: Marco Iannuzzi Has Thrived in Football and Investments

When a professional athlete’s playing days are over, many do not realize that athlete’s career in another field is often just beginning. As part of VIKTRE’s dedication to drive interaction between athletes and their fans, our Career team made it a priority to show how successful many athletes have been since their playing days ended in a feature called “My Career Change.”

In this installment of “My Career Change,” we actually deviate from the usual “career after sports angle” to bring you a profile on current CFL wide receiver, Marco Iannuzzi. Most know Iannuzzi from his collegiate days at Harvard and with the BC Lions of the CFL, but many do not realize he has been very successful off the field WHILE still playing.

What sport do you play?

What teams have you played for?Marco

Harvard Football (2007 – 2010)
BC Lions (2011 – Present) CFL

What industry are you currently working in?

How did you get into your new career?

“I knew while I was chasing football that it could be taken away from me at any moment so I had to have a back-up plan.”

**Editor’s Note from his full profile (link below): Marco began his business career fixing computers while injured from football when he was 13, but really got going in college (while playing football for Harvard). He launched three businesses while injured in college.

What was the biggest challenge you faced making your career change?

“…I want to accomplish more and get the word out there. I know I need to have a brand that’s strong enough to command eyes and ear, then I can bring my message to those people.”

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far in your new career?

“As part of my life as a trusted advisor, I can help athletes and share what I have learnt. Right now, I’m very involved in philanthropy and in the corporate world, and I can help athletes get involved in these areas. That means a lot to me.”

What advice do you have for athletes making their career change?

“Don’t limit yourself by setting someone or something as your one single goal. I’m not a genius. Somehow I made it through Harvard, MIT, pro football and a very successful business. What I’ve done differently is just a bunch of small steps throughout my life that anyone can accomplish.”

How can other athletes learn more about your business or your career change?
