My Career Change: Don Davey’s Career Change After the NFL

In this installment of “My Career Change,” we interviewed former NFL Defensive Tackle, Don Davey. Most know Davey from his days with the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars, but Davey has made quite the name for himself in a number of other endeavors since he left the NFL.

Green Bay Packers – 1991-1994
Jacksonville Jaguars – 1995-1998
What industry did you change careers to?
Entrepreneurship, Finance, Restaurant, Franchising and Real Estate
How did you get into your new career?
I spent my NFL offseasons applying my engineering background to finance. Since then, I have simply taken advantage of attractive opportunities as they have presented themselves.
What was the biggest challenge you faced making your career change?
Filling the huge void I felt without football in my life.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far in your new career?
Being named one of Jacksonville’s Top Wealth Managers three years in a row and being named the International Franchise Association’s Franchisee of the Year.
What advice do you have for athletes making their career change?
Success happens when preparedness meets opportunity.
